Self-Hypnosis

Hypnosis or self-hypnosis can be very effective self-help tools for creating change or transformation in our lives.  To many hypnotists, including myself, hypnosis and self-hypnosis are virtually the same thing.   But self-hypnosis better describes the experience because only the person choosing to experience hypnosis or self-hypnosis can choose to enter into a quiet, relaxed (hypnotic) state.  Whether someone chooses to work with a hypnotist or decides to practice self-hypnosis, they are the only one that can actually cause themself to enter a state of hypnosis or deep relaxation.  And here’s why—because no one can make us relax and go into an alpha or theta state.  A hypnotist can give a subject (the person undergoing hypnosis) suggestions to relax, but the subject is the only one who can make the actual decision whether to act (or not) on the hypnotist’s suggestion.  Also, it’s important to remember that during a hypnosis session, a subject’s conscious mind is still very present, even if it has gone to the background a bit.  And anyone can choose to come out of hypnosis any time they like.  Also, a person does not have to follow a hypnotist’s suggestion during a hypnosis session.

What distinguishes hypnosis from self-hypnosis is the guide we choose to use.  Either we allow someone (like a hypnotist) to guide us into a relaxed hypnotic state and give suggestions to our subconscious mind or we do it ourselves.  While a trained hypnotist is going to be more experienced and is likely to have a better understanding of the process, anyone with enough desire can learn to be an effective self-hypnotist.  Everyone practices self-hypnosis, though most practice it unconsciously.  Every thought you have is a suggestion given to your subconscious mind, and your subconscious mind will do its best to carry out your suggestions (relative to the effectiveness of the self-suggestion).  Thus, everyone practices self-hypnosis.

And yet, in reality, there is no such thing as the power of hypnosis or self-hypnosis—because the “power” referred to is really the power of Creation.  Hypnosis and self-hypnosis are simply effective tools for creation.  So, becoming an effective self-hypnotist, is really becoming an effective creator who has learned to consciously wield the limitless power of creation.  A power we are all blessed with.  For a much more in-depth look at hypnosis, check out our sister site at Self-Hypnosis Made EZ.
